Terms of Service

TeachKoala generates teaching materials — lesson plans, slide decks, activity sheets, quizzes and unit plans — using artificial intelligence, aligned where possible to Australian curriculum frameworks. It is a planning aid for qualified educators and other adults, not a replacement for professional judgement.

Content generated by artificial intelligence can contain errors, omissions or material that is not appropriate for your students, school or context. While we design TeachKoala to be accurate (for example, curriculum codes are validated against the official Australian Curriculum v9 data rather than generated from memory), we do not guarantee that any generated content is accurate, complete, curriculum-compliant or suitable for any particular class.

You are responsible for reviewing all generated content before using it with students. Nothing in TeachKoala substitutes for your professional responsibilities under your employment, registration or your school’s policies.

Your content stays yours. You own the material you put into TeachKoala (topics, notes, uploaded documents) and, to the extent we hold any rights in them, we assign to you the lessons, slides, sheets and quizzes generated for you. You may use, edit, print, present and share them freely for teaching purposes, including at a school you are paid to teach at.

You grant us the limited licence we need to operate the service: storing your content, processing it through our AI providers to generate your materials, and syncing it between your devices. We do not use your content to train AI models, and we do not sell it.

The TeachKoala platform itself — the software, design, prompts and brand — remains ours. Photo credits shown on slides relate to openly-licensed photographs and must be kept when you share those slides.

You can try TeachKoala without an account, with your work stored only on your own device. An account (managed by our sign-in provider, Clerk) stores your work in your library and syncs it across devices. You are responsible for keeping your sign-in method secure, and the service is intended for adults (18+).

TeachKoala is built for teachers, not students, and does not need — and is not designed to hold — personal information about children. Please do not enter identifying student information (names, photos, assessment results tied to identifiable students) into lesson notes or uploads.

Paid plans are monthly subscriptions billed through Stripe. Each plan includes a monthly usage allowance, shown honestly on your My Plan page; allowances reset on the first of each month and unused allowance does not roll over. You can cancel at any time and your plan runs to the end of the period you have paid for.

Nothing in these terms excludes your rights under the Australian Consumer Law, including consumer guarantees that services be provided with due care and skill. Where the service has failed to meet a consumer guarantee, you are entitled to the remedies the law provides. For anything else, contact us and we will be reasonable — we would rather refund a month than argue about one.

Allowances exist so pricing can stay honest. You agree not to: resell or provide automated third-party access to the service; scrape or bulk-extract the service or the curriculum data it ships; attempt to bypass usage metering; or use TeachKoala to generate content that is unlawful, discriminatory or harmful. We may suspend accounts that do these things, with a refund of any unused paid period unless the breach is serious.

Referral rewards (such as a free month of Pro) are described at the time of the offer, apply once per referred person, and may be withdrawn for self-referral or other gaming. Rewards have no cash value.

TeachKoala relies on third parties to operate: Clerk (sign-in), Stripe (payments — we never see your full card details), Vercel and Neon (hosting and database), AI model providers accessed through Vercel’s AI Gateway (content generation), and Openverse (openly-licensed photo search). Their availability affects ours, and their terms govern their services.

TeachKoala is not affiliated with, endorsed by or approved by ACARA, any state or territory education department, curriculum authority or school. Curriculum content is used under its open licence — see the attribution in our footer.

We aim to keep TeachKoala available and improving, but it is provided without a guarantee of uninterrupted service, and features may change. If we ever discontinue the service, we will give reasonable notice so you can export your work (lessons can be exported to PowerPoint and print at any time).

To the extent permitted by law (and without limiting your Australian Consumer Law rights), our total liability for claims connected with the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss. Nothing limits liability that cannot be limited under Australian law.

We may update these terms as the product evolves. For material changes we will give notice in the app or by email before they take effect; continuing to use TeachKoala after that is acceptance of the updated terms.
